Moon Cake Festival

Moon Cake Festival: A Mid-Autumn Festival (Chung Chiu), the third major festival of the Chinese calendar, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month.
So, this year's celebration shall be on 25th September 2007, Tuesday.
There are several versions of why Chinese celebrates this occassion but for me, I always treasure this occasion as a family reunion or special gathering where as kids this day brings a lot of cheers, foods and enjoyments.
As for now, I am trying to bring back this environment and shared with my own kids so that they could appreciate the celebration of this happy occasion.
I should probably make a trip back to Sibu on this occasion to be with my parents to recollect this celebration, other than Chinese New Year.

The Feast Of Assumption, August 15th

Today is a great feast and declaration to show that we too shall be able to join Mother Mary in Heaven if we love God and adhere to His wishes and plans for us like our Mother. May you receive abundant blessing on this blessed feast.

I am pleased to share with you a beautiful prayer from Pope Pius XII who defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854.

Prayer of Pope Pius XII
"O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God and Mother of Men, — we believe with all the fervor of our Faith in your triumphal Assumption, both in body and soul, into heaven where you are acclaimed as Queen of all the choirs of angels and all the legions of the Saints; and we unite with them to praise and bless the Lord Who has exalted you above all other pure creatures, and to offer you the tribute of our devotion and our love." (from the Assumption Prayer of Pope Pius XII)

God bless...

An Enjoyment with Coffee Beans

At my every trip outside Sarawak, I always make time to enjoy myself at Coffee Beans. Not saying I could not have the same in Kuching as one of their chain outlets is right in the centre of the city but the environment is a bit different as probably due to more people patronizing the outlet or just mainly my mindset of being away from home make it interesting.

The pricing of goods is “real expensive” if you compare with local coffee shop, as high as 15 times. A trip to this place will cost me 5 days of breakfast at local coffee shop. But why I still go? The founders of Coffee Beans in my opinion could have probably thought about the following experiences for their customers;
- Enjoy an exclusive lifestyle
- Freedom of expression & relaxation with friends/family
- Total e-connectivity whilst relaxing

These are what today’s young and modern ones appreciate. Therefore, not only at Coffee Beans have great business growth, we have others like San Francisco and Starbucks are going for the similar experiences.

In my recent holiday with my family in KL, I have brought along my notebook as I know I could still be connected at Coffee Beans whilst relaxing myself through late night. As thought, many “internet kaki” patrons also brought along their notebooks and few were doing business whilst having coffee. Further, these patrons are not only locals as many are foreigners.

As for myself, I am grateful to enjoy this connectivity as I could still catch up on my investments, friends over blog and business with a cup of coffee.

Just experience it, you will know what I share…

Birthdays to celebrate

Birthday is a day of appreciation for the Lord, our mum and dad who have given us life to live. A day of reflection for our existence, so much of accomplishment in the past years since the first beat of our heart and wishing for better years ahead.

And this week is going to be a celebration week as there are several birthdays to celebrate. Beside spending more, I guess I have to differ my weighing session for 2 weeks as to ensure my weight could stay the same officially after wnjoying so much good foods..

It has started with my old buddy yesterday, then my sis-in-law 2 days from now and then my lovely wife and finally the Kuching City Day on Saturday.

It is a happy ocassion and will cherish every bit of this special moment.

Are we ready to face our Creator ?

I have attended vigil mass for late Reverend Father Joachim Pang last night...and it was well attended by many. Fr. Pang has gone back to the Lord on 3pm last Friday afternoon and the funeral is scheduled on this Tuesday, 17/7/2007. His age is 88 years old.

I came to know Fr. Pang when I am still very young/small in Sibu in the 80s as he is the fatherly figure in Sacred Heart Church then. Only when I joined Legion of Mary (Mater Misericordiae Praisedium), St. Peter's Church, I have the real opportunity to mingle with him directly as he is our Adjutorian and we have spent few occasions together.

In the vigil mass sharing by Fr. Vincent Chin, Fr. Chin shares that for the past 19 months where Fr. Pang has been staying at St. Peter Church's priest home since his full retirement from active priest works, he has spent all his time in prayers. If it is asked, who is most ready when the Lord called upon, it would be Fr. Pang. At the last moments, Fr. Pang still praying to the Lord to welcome and accept him to His Kingdom and asked Mother Mary to intercede his prayers. Before he breathed his last, he informed that he is going back to home.

A reflection to us all, have we really prepare ourself well when the Lord called on us, like Fr. Pang ?
