A transformation from Walking To Running

I have been into real running (no walking but running) after KL Marathon 2012 around June last year. Before the transformation happening, I was only on brisk walking and no running at all though I have participated 4 other races with the furthest in 2011 Penang Bridge Half Marathon. I had suffered bad blisters on my left foot after going through 3 hours 21 minutes and due to this injuries, I had to stop doing my routine exercise walking for about 10 days.

May be, it is due to the phobia of having blisters after going through KL Marathon, I had decided to start running short distance of 2km, then 3km....and it was a non-stop action, building up my distance over the next 5 months into another racing event. I am glad and proud of my personal achievement when I did full run in Singapore Standard Chartered Half Marathon non-stop. Yes, no walking at all.

(My Bidor Half Marathon Timing)

To-date, I have done 4 half marathons racing in the last 18 months and though my timing has not improved but I can feel strongly that my energy and fitness has increased tremendously.

During the same period, I have shed off 10 kilos. My next step is to bring down my weight @ at least another 20 kilos as this will definitely enable me to run faster and safer. I know where to cut out (smile).

It was a total commitment and determination to achieve what I have been dreaming (not yet 100%). I can a lot of short run ranging from 3km to 8km. However, my challenge now is to raise the distance to longer run of minimum 10km to build my endurance to last longer and stronger.

Well, as of yesterday, I have ran 739km over the last 10 months and I will keep running towards my goal is to run my maiden full 42.2km next July 2014 together with my friends and importantly achieving greater life and health. Amen.    Stay tune !!

A Year After My First Public Run

Wow...I could not believe before that I can do this but I have done it in "We Run Nike KL 2012" yesterday, a day before my 41st anniversary of my creation, completed my 10km non-stop run from start till finishing line in a public run !

Since the participation in the Adidas KOTR  on 2nd October 2011, I had done 4 other public runs namely;

a) Penang Bridge Marathon 2011 - 21km
b) MPIB 2012 - 12 km
c) tHe Spring Run 2012 - 10km
d) Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2012 - 21 km

For the past 5 events, I have only done brisk walking after first 2km run. However, after my SCKLM 2012 on 24th June 2012, I started to run non-stop, beginning with low pacing at 9 minutes/km and after months of committed training, I could now run sub 6 minutes/km over a distance of 6km. However, it is still far from my target of consistently run 7 minutes pace over 21 km. I need to continue transforming myself, reducing my weight a priority too to enable lighter body mass to move easily.

This Nike Run is my public testing before my 3rd Half Marathon challenge at Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2012 on 2 December 2012. The carrot in front of me is "A free flow beer" if I could achieve below 2.45 hours.

It is fun running as it challenges me to keep fit, discipline and able to release a lot of emotional stress from my mind and body. It is also the cheapest form of exercise and I can just do it alone. I have a group of friends also doing the same and we are all linked through whatapps to motivate and update each other of our workouts and achievement.

Thank you, Lord for blessing me with good mental and healthy body.

Stay fit and be happy. Cheers !!

5.5.11

This is a special day where I have reached South Peak, Mount Kinabalu...my best achievement so far in my 3rd Mt. Kinabalu expedition. I thank Almighty for blessing me with good weather on the morning of the climb and as so far my training has helped me in reaching to this point. Everything was so good although the day before I was soaked in the rain when ascending up to Laban Rata. My timing was also good with 5.5 hours from Timphohon to Laban Rata.

Nevertheless, descending was tired and painful on my knee not like the previous two rounds. This is probably due to over pressure from South Peak to Laban Rata which took me about 7 hours and then another 5 hours from Laban Rata to Timphohon in heavy rains.

It was a great journey and I will be back again to conquer the Low Peak !!
